Grandmother’s boyfriend arrested after Birmingham boy, 3, dies from ingesting drugs

A Birmingham mother is grieving the loss of her young son after authorities say he ingested a controlled substance at a relative’s home.

Carter Thomas, 3, was found unresponsive at 3:32 p.m. March 6 at a family member’s home on 15th Place S.W. He as taken to Children’s of Alabama by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service where he was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said authorities have not yet determined the cause and manner of death.

A Rocky Mount man has been charged with felony child abuse following the death of his 7-year-old grandchild, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
