Wedding DJ Arrested For The 1992 Rape And Murder Of Elementary School Teacher
LANCASTER, PA – Police have arrested a man after a DNA match identified him as the person responsible for the 1992 rape and murder of Christy Mirack.
On Dec. 21, 1992, the body of 25-year-old Christy Mirack was found dead on the living room floor of her apartment.
Mirack had been savagely beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted.
Her clothes were pushed down from her waist, her shirt pushed up and her face beaten so badly that it was distorted.
Evidence from the scene indicated Mirack fought for her life against her attacker.
DNA samples were taken from her body and the carpet underneath her body, but for 25 years police have not made an arrest.
That was until the DNA sample was matched to a relative who submitted their DNA to the genealogy website GEDmatch. The sample was then entered into an online, open-source database that is available to law enforcement.
After further investigation, the DNA was narrowed down to 49-year-old Raymond “DJ Freez” Rowe. His DNA was a confirmed match after undercover officers collected a water bottle and chewing gum from Rowe.
He was arrested at his home without incident and is now behind bars without bail on one criminal count of homicide.
Police say Rowe, who lived only four miles from Mirack at the time of her murder, was never on their radar. It is unknown if the two knew each other.
I bet all these DNA advancements have some unknown murderers a little worried, yeah? I mean leaving DNA behind is one thing — but now it can be matched to a relative who voluntarily sent their DNA to an online database to see how Italian they are?
That’s absolutely hilarious.
Every month there is a cold case being closed because of this exact same scenario. The Golden State Killer was captured the same way (and involved the exact same website). Can you imagine the number of cold cases that are going to be solved in the next few years?
